Client 71: Mobility Sustains Momentum for Mikayla!
“One step forward and two steps back.”
Nothing is more frustrating than not being able to keep momentum when trying to accomplish a goal. You figure out one piece of the puzzle only to have another problem pop up somewhere else! I think we all struggle with this issue from time to time, but for some, this is the journey for the basic necessities of life - housing, employment, education, community, independence, and relevant to Mikayla, reliable transportation.
Mikayla was nominated to us by Unbound Now, an anti-trafficking organization here in DFW. We have worked with this organization a number of times over the last few years, and one of the things we consistently hear from them about women in their care is that the journey is long and difficult. Reestablishing yourself after life has been turned upside down requires commitment, endurance, faith, and community.
For the last few years, Mikayla has been working incredibly hard towards her goals of self-sufficiency even though she has not had access to a car! Get to work? She found rides. Get to school? She took public transportation & walked. Late to a meeting? She paid for a ride-share.
Her advocate, Ene, had the following to say about her:
“I nominated Mikayla because she has demonstrated incredible resilience, determination, and growth while overcoming significant obstacles in her life. One of the qualities that stands out most about Mikayla is her ability to remain positive and focused on her goals, even during difficult circumstances. She consistently works hard, maintains employment, attends school, and continues taking steps toward building a stable future for herself.”
We were so excited to gift Mikayla this beautiful blacked-out Toyota Camry! This vehicle will help her continue pursuing her goals with confidence and provide her with the tools needed to maintain the positive momentum she has worked so hard to achieve.
The reality is that a vehicle does not solve all of our problems. Life can still be hard. There is often still lots of work that needs to be done.
BUT, rather than every hardship being multiplied by the difficulty of navigating our cities without reliable transportation, Mikayla now can keep up her momentum for change!
Thank you to all of our volunteers, donors, sponsors, and people praying. Mikayla was not only our 71st overall person to receive a vehicle, but also our 15th this year, which puts us on track to give away over 30 cars in 2026! Praise God!
