Sonia Kept Trusting When Her Confidence was Shaken

After experiencing domestic violence and abandonment, Sonia leaned into her faith and the support of Genesis Women’s Shelter to find hope.

On a bright morning at a noisy downtown tax office, our team got to witness, with joy and tears, the latest provision God had for Sonia: a car.

An opportunity emerged for Sonia to share some of her story and with courage, this young mother told us about the difficulty and trauma of her past couple of years. Her experience of domestic violence and abandonment in 2023 devastated her, and when her car broke down shortly afterwards, she was left with few options. Sonia leaned into faith and the support of her family for the strength she didn’t have herself to keep moving forward.

Many clients talk about depending on faith during their hardest times, but Sonia was remarkable because she praised God the entire time she spoke. She kept thanking Him throughout the morning and quoting Scripture verses she had clung to during the dark night of her distress. It was inspiring to me the way she had obviously learned to deeply trust God during the hardest season of her life, when it would have been easy to blame Him for her circumstances.

Sonia also talked about how Genesis Women’s Shelter (her advocate) supported her and was continuing to help her family with counseling and assistance. We have been proud to partner with Genesis as the advocate organization for several clients at this point, and we have the highest regard for the wrap-around care they provide for women and children in crisis.

Sonia, our client #42 happily received the Bible we gifted her because she knew it already represented her answer to life, the universe and everything.

Thank you to the generous couple who donated this Hyundai Sonata that will bless Sonia and her children. They shared with us they had been searching online to donate their vehicle to someone who could really use it, when they came across a Reddit post that has become famous in our team. In the post, a former client advocate actually “advocates” for OnRamp DFW as a great place to donate vehicles. We’ve had three vehicle donations as a result!

This couple even drove out from Fort Worth the morning of the giveaway so they could attend and support Sonia.
