Client 81: Till You Get Your “Yes”

Sometimes the road toward a better future is full of potholes and closed routes. Finding stable housing, securing employment, and providing for your family can feel overwhelming when so many things seem to be working against you. But sometimes, the key is to keep going until you get your yes.

For the sake of her privacy, we'll refer to this client as Naomi*. When she joined the women’s program at New Friends New Life, she was facing several significant challenges, including housing instability, unemployment, raising 3 girls by herself, a lack of reliable transportation, and emotional distress. Yet her advocate, Nikki, quickly noticed her quiet, humble spirit and willingness to keep showing up.

As Nikki and Naomi worked together, they adopted a simple reminder: No matter how many “no's” you receive, keep going until you get your “yes.”

Over months and months of hardwork, Naomi began to see those yeses come. She secured stable housing for herself and her daughters, found employment, and continued working toward a more stable future for her family. Through her commitment to the women’s program, ongoing counseling, and career training she kept taking steps toward a fresh start.

Then, after many more months of hardwork, another yes finally came.

OnRamp DFW was honored to provide Naomi with a well-maintained, single-owner vehicle to help her continue moving forward. Personal transportation will allow her to get to work, support her daughters' activities, enjoy family outings, and pursue new opportunities as she builds a stable life for her family.

Naomi's story reminds us that progress takes perseverance, support, and a willingness to keep taking the next step, even when life is difficult. Naomi has worked hard to reach this point, and we're grateful she has had people alongside her as she continues building a new life.

We are thankful to Nikki and the team at New Friends New Life for walking alongside Naomi, as well as the donors and volunteers who make these vehicle gifts possible.

We are especially grateful to the donor who gave Naomi’s vehicle who came to see the giveaway. Even though they were there in person, they preferred to remain anonymous, explaining that they saw themselves simply as a steward of the car, recognizing that it ultimately belonged to God. Their generosity reflects the heart behind this work: using what God has given each of us to help our neighbors.

Naomi, whatever challenges lie ahead, we hope you remember the words that have carried you this far:

Keep going until you get your yes.
